Postcards From the West
November 4 – 9, 2016
Reception: November 4, 2016; 6 – 9pm
From November 4 to November 11, 2016, 717 Gallery presents Postcards From the West, a fascinating solo show of landscapes, flora, and symbols of the west by nationally-recognized artist Louis Escobedo.
Meet the artist at an opening reception on Friday, November 4, from 6-9pm.
Escobedo was born and spent the first 15 years of his life in Sweetwater Texas where public schools inspired his early love of art. After graduation with a degree in advertising art, in the 1970’s, Louis embarked as a freelance Illustrator and thrived almost instantly, winning a Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrator’s in New York. In the 1990’s he left for his fine art career beginning in Fort Worth Texas then moving to Denver Colorado. In 1994 he was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal from the National Oil Painters of America (OPA), an organization founded just three years before to recognize the highest standards in traditional representational art. In 2014 he received another Gold Medal (with a cash award of $25,000.00) from OPA making him only the second member to win twice in the history of the organization. Louis states, I’m a happy go lucky guy; whatever I paint there has to be something emotionally strong about it for a successful painting.
